Advanced Scoped Carbine is the highest level course in our scoped carbine series. Advanced scoped carbine will require students to utilize all the skills learned in the intro an intermediate courses and apply them at speed, on unknown distance targets, utilizing holdovers, dialing elevation, making their own wind calls and building hasty positions on barricades. Students will learn how to move into and out of positions efficiently, and how to engage longer range targets with multiple rounds at increased rates of fire (picture shooting bill drills at 400 yards!). Additionally, students may be challenged to engage moving targets and targets with limited exposures.

This course is geared towards lightweight, 5.56mm/.223 AR-15 pattern carbines, however lightweight, bolt-action carbines with lower-power magnified optics can be utilized with an understanding of their capabilities and limitations.

Students should arrive at this course with a properly zeroed optic (we recommend 50 or 100 yards), and 250 rounds of consistent quality ammunition. Students should understand spotting and communicating the related calls. The class also provides practice on advanced techniques for positional shooting, barricades, and tripods.

Areas covered in this class:

• Precision shooting at long range (out to 700 yards), with and without added stress
• External ballistics and how to work through
• Perfecting your dope and understanding the nuances from weather, suppressors, and other factors
• Quickly acquiring and hitting targets at various distances
• Ranging targets with your scope
• Mastering hold-overs and dialing
• Mastering wind and other environmental factors
• Uncomfortable positional shooting and use of barricades and bipods

Prerequisites:

• Intermediate-level scoped carbine or equivalent carbine class, this is NOT a beginner level class
• Open mind
  
• Must be lawful for you to possess a firearm in the United States
  

Student supply list:

• Zeroed rifle with magnified optic or scope (AR15 style rifle recommended)
• Sling for rifle (single point sling not recommended)
• 2+ rifle magazines and pouches
• 250 rounds of good ammo (recommend decent name brand factory ammo)
• Bipod and support bags (not required but useful)
• Rangefinder, spotting scope, binoculars, or observation optic (not required)
• Small pack stuffed with clothing for supported shooting positions
• Smartphone with ballistics app and reliable DOPE already in place
• Eye protection

• Baseball type cap or a hat
• Knee pads recommended
• Cart or pack for hauling gear around the range
• Note taking gear

What you need to know before attending:

• There is a $25 range usage fee for non-members of host club. If choosing not to prepay, please bring exact cash to training. If you are registering for multiple people who are a mix of members and non members, please make separate purchases for members and non members as the prepaid fee applies to every registrant.
