PREREQUISITE: Intro to defensive pistol mounted optics or equivalent (if you are unsure of your skill level, take our quick proficiency quiz)

Intermediate red dot pistol is the next step for students of introductory red dot and those more familiar with using a dot. This class will build consistency in presentation, speed, and accuracy by truly drilling down on red dot fundamentals and correcting bad habits.

Emphasis on target-focused shooting will be used throughout the course and students will learn the benefits of running drills with an occluded optic to reinforce this. Students will learn techniques for incorporating movement with their shooting (into and out of position as well as shooting on the move), and modulating the speed of their shooting as dictated by target requirements.

Areas covered in this class:

  • Quick review of the fundamentals skills for using a pistol mounted optic
  • “Hacks” on acquiring the dot quicker
  • Taking multiple shots efficiently
  • Shooting at multiple targets quickly and accurately
  • Moving in all directions in "ready to fight" mode
  • Acquiring and engaging moving targets
  • Shooting from non-standard positions
  • Shooting one-handed
  • Clearing malfunctions one and two-handed
  • Shooting with the other strong hand

Prerequisites:

  • Intro to pistol mounted optics or equivalent, proficiency drawing from holster
  • Experience using a red dot optic on a handgun
  • Open mind
  • Must be lawful for you to possess a firearm in the United States

Student supply list:

  • Semi automatic handgun in standard centerfire caliber (not a 22) with mounted and zeroed red dot sight
  • Belt and holster for your optics mounted pistol
  • Magazine pouches for 2 magazines, at least 3-4 magazines
  • 300 rounds of ammo for your pistol
  • Eye protection
  • Ear protection
  • Baseball type cap or a hat
  • Clothing and footwear suitable for the day
  • Knee pads suggested
  • Note taking gear
  • Smart phone for video analysis

What you need to know before attending:

  • There is a $25 range usage fee for non-members of host club. If choosing not to prepay, please bring exact cash to training. If you are registering for multiple people who are a mix of members and non members, please make separate purchases for members and non members as the prepaid fee applies to every registrant.
  • Club members at host clubs are eligible for 10% off tuition. Email andy@rapiddefensewi.com your badge number to receive the discount code prior to purchasing the class.
  • We'll send exact location address and class information about a week out from the class containing everything you need to know.
